Identity Exploration — Figuring Out Who You Actually Are
Identity exploration therapy is space to work out who you are underneath everyone else’s expectations — your values, your orientation, your gender, your culture, your work, your faith, your role in your family. Tea Time Therapy offers affirming, judgment-free identity work virtually across Massachusetts, starting with a free consultation.
Signs
- You can describe who you’re supposed to be far more easily than who you are
- You act like a different person depending on the room
- Questions about orientation, gender, or values that you’ve never said out loud
- You built a life that looks right and feels borrowed
- You’re between two cultures and fully at home in neither
Identity questions get dismissed as self-indulgent, which is exactly backwards. Living out of alignment with yourself is expensive — it shows up as anxiety, burnout, resentment, and a persistent low hum that something is off. Sorting it out is practical work.
You do not have to arrive with a label, and you do not have to leave with one. Therapy is one of the very few places you can think out loud without the thinking becoming a commitment. You can try language on. You can change your mind. Nothing leaves the room.
Caitlin is passionate about working with the LGBTQ+ community, offering a space where clients can explore their identities, face challenges head-on, and feel fully seen for who they are. Paulina works with first- and second-generation Americans navigating the particular weight of holding more than one culture at once.
Do I need to know what I am before I start?
No — that’s frequently the reason people come. "I don’t know" is a complete and welcome starting point.
Is this only about sexuality and gender?
No. Identity work also covers culture and immigration, faith and leaving faith, career and vocation, family roles, neurodivergence, and simply who you are after a big life change rearranged you.
Is Tea Time Therapy LGBTQ+ affirming?
Yes. LGBTQ+ is one of our named specialties, and Caitlin Goff works specifically with the LGBTQ+ community — a safe, supportive space to explore identity and feel fully seen.
