Eating Disorders — You Don’t Have to Be "Sick Enough"

Eating disorder therapy addresses the relationship with food, body, and control underneath the behaviors. You do not need to look a certain way, hit a certain weight, or be "sick enough" to deserve care — most people with eating disorders never do. Tea Time Therapy offers support virtually across Massachusetts.

Signs

Eating disorders are strikingly good at convincing people they don’t qualify. Most people with one are never underweight; many are never diagnosed at all. If your relationship with food is costing you your life — your attention, your peace, your presence at the table — that’s the threshold. There isn’t another one.

Food is the language; it’s rarely the subject. Underneath there’s usually control, worth, anxiety, trauma, or perfectionism doing the actual talking. That’s why "just eat normally" lands like a joke — and why the work goes deeper than a meal plan.

Eating disorder recovery often needs a team — therapy plus medical and nutrition support. We help you navigate and connect with other providers, and we only refer to professionals we’d trust with our own loved ones.

Do I need a diagnosis to start?

No. Bring the concern; the sorting out is part of the work. You do not need a label to justify asking for help.

Do you provide higher levels of care?

Tea Time Therapy is an outpatient telehealth practice. If you need a higher level of care, we’ll be honest about that and help you connect with the right program — we refer to vetted partners like Lightwork Therapy & Recovery, which offers day treatment for women.

Which therapist treats eating disorders?

Eating disorders are a practice-wide specialty here rather than a single clinician’s niche. The free 15-minute consultation is how we match you well.
